It includes questions that need to be answered about the general game structure of Broken Angel

broken angel
basic start idea
the game would be brocken up into sections or areas of the childs scique

each individual area must be saved though means of a main quest. The areas can be tackled in any order except the life tree and the area of death (could change).
the areas could be (working titles and areas):
the life tree - situated in the center. this is where the angles story begins after he falls out of the tree. The tree would be huge. The tree would also be dying with giant leves everywhere. And the tree would be blackened. roots would pop up all over the game world signifying its importance.
The are of play -
The area of happiness - could be a christmass themed area
The area of sadness -
The area of anger –again
The area of creativity - could be a school themed area areas must be saved. Perhaps the level could have many different styles of art including crayon watercolour, pencil and other types. Before the world is saved the drawing could depict images of unhappiness and sadness. However that area has been saved, the pictures would change to be more like what a child’s drawings would be.
the area of death - (some sort of ticking clock that old teddies and toys are making work) dead toys everywhere. This area could be very disturbing and could also show some very interesting styles of art.
Type of things to inhabit the world- any types toys. Animals. people in the child life. More?what else could fill the world? Could it be some children’s superheroes be in it? could characters like Peter Pan being a game. Could other characters like Peter Pa be in the game.
entire game area would be covered by a giant dome (the inside of the skull) could this be done?
What would light the world? Would it be a sun? or a dying sun? or would it be light from the tree? Would light ebb from the tree lighting the world? Would energy flow from the tree? Would toys be huddled around the roots? Would the world be a generaly dark place at first?
What significance would the angel have to the other inhabitants. Would it be seen as signal of hop or a sginal that the end is nih? Would he be greated as a pottential hero? Would the inhabitants even know of his existance and his being there be a shock? Would be just another creature in the world and dosnt know he has speshal abilitys?

Nick

Idea for the intro

The game follows a boy in the opening cut scene, (the boy will be the man from ‘Office Sim’ (working title) the story will set up the character and will explain how the character has become the man he will later to become. The boy (he has no name at the moment) is followed by the camera he is running down a street (maybe coming home from school), he is passing shops and houses and a park. (You later find out that he is running home because it is his birthday and he was not to open his presents until he came home from school. On his way back home he is hit by a car and knocked down. (It has put him into a comma).

The screen goes black. You can hear noises form the hospital (Beeps and muffled voices). Then the all you can see is a hazy blue sky. As it become clearer you see that it is not a blue sky, but an immense dome. With million of blue dots (like pixels). Then a wave of a dark blue washes over them, from side to side, as they change colour and then back again. Then from nowhere they start to dry up and turn black, from the outer sides of the dome, the blue seems to be contracting in to a small circler centre. As the black current moves ever faster toward the centre, a handful of the blue dots, release them self’s and start to fall, (they look like spec of dust in the air). Then all the black dots start to fall as well (randomly). As the camera zooms in you see that the black dust are actual long creatures with masks on, and there once blue sack which comes from there head (like a sack of hair), has turned black and is shrinking. The camera then zooms in and finds a small group of blue creatures (angels). One by one they start turning black and become lifeless. Then you start to hear the sound of rain drops.

Now there is only one angel left, as they fall in to a forest of real long trees, the trees are hollow and have thick green leaves. Which the angel crashes into but the leaves seam to know that there are thing falling on to them and they move around the inner circumferences of the tree, trying to get in the way. This is slowly slowing down the small underdeveloped angel. The sound of rain increases as if it is coming down in sheet. The tree starts to turn black all around as the angel is falling. The blackness caches up with the angel as it is slowing down, and the last few leaves are cumbering around and falling apart before the angel can reach them. Because of this the angel hits the ground with a little force and lands head first. The mask it is wearing gets broken, (that where the working title “broken Angel” has come from, (but Ian loves the title, by the way)).

That I how the game would start, I could be a cut scene or some part of it could be playable, e.g. like the bit with the tree.

The game takes place inside of the boys mind. But I would like the last one or two level to be in the real world. The main story of the game is still open for debate. But the game would be a platformer, hopefully 3D, but I think it could work in 2D as well. There would be no health bars or on screen bars. So we don’t break the illusion of the game (once it has started, also no more cut scenes). You would play as the angel, the angel would start with basic skill like walking running and small jumps, but would later learn more complex moves, like longer jumps and even gilding / flying. The world represents the boy, if the world get damaged then the boy will get worse and you will hear beeps from the hospital and eventually when the world is destroyed the child will die and it will be a game over. So you have to protected the world.

The game will be in different styles, some objects will be in watercolour, some in caracole and so on. Because the boys mind is broken thing are a bit messed up……

I like the idea because it an adventurer game like no other and will have great gameplay and tell a moving story. That has never been scene. Their is also alot of room for peoples input, and creative ideas.
